Selena Gomez's friends and loved ones are reportedly distraught she has rekindled her relationship with Justin Bieber.

The 20-year-old star's companions apparently tried to keep her mind off her ex-boyfriend after the parted ways in the New Year.

However her close associates are worried she will be heartbroken again after she failed to stay away.

'We did everything we could to keep them apart but he was so persistent,' a source told British newspaper The Sun.

The insider admitted that their romance isn't good for the Disney star and thinks they got too serious too early.

'It's really unhealthy they have such a turbulent relationship at such a young age,' they added. 'He leaves her in floods of tears constantly.'

Selena is said to have been on a rollercoaster of emotions in the last 12 months as her boyfriend has run into trouble with the law several times.

Police recently found marijuana on his tour bus in Sweden and he got into a fight with a British paparazzo.

'She has had a really difficult year or so dealing with the tense emotions that come with dating him,' the friend revealed. 'We thought she had finally broken free. But he has persuaded her to take him back again. There's not much we can do about it - but we are going to try.'

Justin and Selena somewhat confirmed they are an item again when she appeared in a photograph with him shirtless on Instagram last week.
