Jennifer Lopez was never a "party animal".

The singer is currently promoting her latest single Live It Up, which features Pitbull.

However, the 43-year-old mother-of-two insists the song isn't about having a wild night, but rather about loving your life.

"It's not a question of age. You could have asked me that when I was 20. I was never a party animal," she answered German Teleschau when asked whether Live It Up reflects her lifestyle.

"Especially in the last few years, because they have been extremely hard for me. I was at a point where I had to put my life back together. Last year's single Dance Again was like a manifest. I had to learn to dance again, to laugh again and live freely. Everyone can do this for themselves. This is the message from Live It Up. It doesn't matter if you are a mom or not."

Jennifer had a hard time when she spilt from Marc Anthony, the father of her twins Max and Emme, in 2011.

Since then, she has found love with 26-year-old Casper Smart.

"We work really well together. Although Casper might say that I am a tough boss and I am also the boss in our relationship! He gets an earful from me. But it is so easy and inspiring for us to work together and that's the reason why we work together," she gushed.

Jennifer has been proving her prowess as a popstar recently, performing on Britain's Got Talent and the Billboard Awards.

The singer wore a tiny leotard and performed energetic dance routines, which will always be her priority.

"Dance songs bring me luck. And I love to dance. I am a dancer - that's my first profession. Everything comes second to that," she explained.
