The singer, who recently made her long-awaited chart comeback with new album I Look To You, will perform on the reality show a week on Sunday (18/10/09).

It will also be her first UK TV performance in 12 years on the results show.

She said: "I have always loved my UK fans and I'm thrilled to perform for them on The X Factor. I am also a fan of Simon Cowell's and look forward to meeting him. It should be a fun night."

The day after her appearance on the show, Houston will release her first studio album since 2002, which debuted at number one on the US album charts last month, in the UK.

This week's X Factor results show will feature performances from Robbie Williams and Alexandra Burke.

Shakira and Madonna are also tipped to appear and perform on the ITV1 talent show this year.
