Adele says performing live at the Oscars will be 'terrifyingly wonderful'.

The British singer has kept a low-profile in recent months, following the birth of her son last year. She returned to the spotlight a few weeks ago to attend the Golden Globe Awards, where she won the best song prize for her James Bond track Skyfall. It has now been confirmed Adele will be making her live comeback at the Academy Awards next month, to perform the Oscar-nominated tune.

"It's an honour to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again,' Adele explained. 'It's something I've never experienced and probably only ever will once!"

Skyfall has been recognised in best original song category, and was written by Adele and Paul Epworth.

Adele's appearance at the glitzy Oscars ceremony on February 24 will mark her first US TV performance since the Grammy Awards last year.

"We have enormous respect for Adele's unique artistry as a songwriter and a singer," Oscar show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron revealed. "She is currently one of the most successful recording artists in the world, and we believe that her performance of Skyfall will be an exciting Oscar moment for audiences watching at the Dolby Theatre and on television screens around the world."

Skyfall is the first James Bond theme tune to be recognised by the Oscars since Sheena Easton's For Your Eyes Only in 1981.

The 85th Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center and hosted by Seth MacFarlane.
