Selena Gomez: Life is fun

Selena Gomez wanted to celebrate the simple act of 'having fun' in her newest promo.
Selena Gomez wanted to celebrate the simple act of 'having fun' in her newest promo.

Selena's music video Hit the Lights follows the singer and her friends on a day of adventures. The bunch begin their day with a countryside frolic and end it at a rocking house party in the evening.

Selena is pleased with the final video. The star believes that the piece encapsulates the mood of her life at the moment.

"This [promo's] saying that I'm at the point where I'm having fun with it. I'm not trying to be older. I'm not trying to be younger. I'm trying to explain where I'm at in my life, and I feel like that's what describes it, and having fun with my friends and it was beautiful and it was simple," Selena told MTV News. "I thought it was nice."

Selena did not have a particular vision at the outset. She allowed the video to unfold organically.

"To be honest, I didn't really quite know the direction that I wanted it in the beginning," she recalled. "When we read this treatment, my mom and I really, really liked it, and we thought it would look really cool. And then when we got on set, it just took it to a whole other level."

Selena enjoyed working under the direction of Philip Andelman, the man who helmed the project. She feels everything came together effortlessly on the day of the shoot.

"It was very relaxed, which is really refreshing, because most of my videos require a lot of [work]. Either there's wardrobe changes that are intense and there's hair and make-up that's really out there, but this one was just a little more relaxed and organic.'

Hit the Lights is the third single from the singer's third studio album When the Sun Goes Down with her band Selena Gomez & The Scene. The track was released this week.
